I was giving a benefit concert for a man named Bob Veillette who suffered from Locked In Syndrome (he was paralyzed from the eyes down). I didn't know Bob but I wanted to write a special song for him for this Concert.  I went to his website (he was a journalist for years) and his front page had a beautiful picture of him smiling with one quote: "Take Nothing For Granted."  I knew this would be the title of my song.  It seemed to flow from there.

This song was originally called "Sue."  I had written it for my great friend Sue for her 40th Birthday party.  I wanted to make it a little more marketable so I rewrote it as "You" and now I often dedicate it to my husband, Anthony, who is my special "You."

This song is based on the book "Hold Me Tight" by Dr. Sue Johnson.  It's a book about how our deepest feelings of love and wanting so desperately to connect are often thwarted and miscommunicaed resulting in more disconnect - the exact thing we don't want!

I wrote this song for the American Idol Songwriting Competition but it didn't get selected.  Still had alot of fun doing it! It's so retro - it cracks me up!
