Dream Killers

Dream Killers is one of twelve tracks recorded for Frank's musical "Mommy I'm a Princess."

I Wanna Be A Tigger

This is a song based on Randy Pausche's line "I wanna be a Tigger" from his famous Last Lecture.  The song was dedicated to both Randy Pausche and my father, Anthony P. Halsey, who died right around the same time as Randy from Pancreatic Cancer as well.  They were both inspiring men who lived life with such grace and positive attitude!

"Yes We Can"

When Obama was elected as a Songwriter I felt I needed to write a song on this historic event.  This song is based on his Victory Speech.

 Obama's Victory Speech:

This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that's on my mind tonight is about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She's a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing - Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old. She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons - because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin

And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America - the heartache and the hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.

At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. Yes we can.

When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs and a new sense of common purpose. Yes we can.

When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.

She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that We Shall Overcome. Yes we can.

A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change. Yes we can.

America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves - if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made? This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time - to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth - that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes We Can.

Thank you, God bless you, and may God Bless the United States of America.

“YES WE CAN”

By Linda Bonadies

She stood in line to cast her vote as 106 years old

Through all the things she witnessed, Ann Nixon Cooper knows

That America can change

Yes We Can

Think of all the changes through heartache and through hope

The struggle and the progress, the times that we were told

that we can’t -  but we pressed on with that American creed

Yes We Can

oh Yes We can

America We Can Change

We Can change oh yes we can

From inequality the slaves were freed and finally a women’s right to vote and speak out

From depression and a war we conquered fear with a new Deal and with our hope

          we met their doubt

To quote a preacher from Atlanta he had come

Who told a people that We Shall Overcome

Yes We Can

Oh Yes We Can

America We Can Change

We can Change

We can Change – oh yes we can

Sailing

“SAILING”
By Linda Halsey Bonadies

Daddy was a sailing man, sailing on the sea
Mom was his perfect wind, his wind was she
Steady and strong, always right at his side
When things were wrong
She moved him along
oh he’d be lost without her

Mom was a summer wind blowing on the sea
And when she found her perfect ship, it was Daddy
She found a home in the warmth of his sails
Never alone
Since him she had known
Oh She’d be lost without him there

‘Cause when he raised his sails up to the sky
They looked like arms so open wide
Hold mom close he never failed
And she would always fill his sails

A team they were as one there purpose was the same
Keep sailing with the sun and even through the rain
So when the clouds rolled in and there were stormy skies
A glimpse of sun they’d see looking in each other’s eyes
When currents were all wrong and seas began to rise
They said “Hold on and don’t let go, we can make it if we try.”

So Daddy raised his sails up to the sky
They looked like arms so open wide
Hold mom close he never failed
And she would always fill his sails

Sailing forever bound giving what the other needs
True love is what they found so much to receive
It’s plain to see after all of these years
Forever they’ll be together at sea
And you can still see Daddy

Raise his sails up to the sky
They look like arms so open wide
Hold mom close he never failed
And she was still his wind

Together they would move ahead
When one was weak the other led
I guess I’ve heard it said
That’s how it is with love

Daddy raised his sails up to the sky
They looked like arms so open wide
Hold mom close he never failed
And she’s still the wind that fills his sails

Friendship

This song was a compilation of thought/words/lyrics that were submitted from girls from The Shorline Girls Group that Linda set to music.  What a puzzle/challenge to put together and what fun!!
